The inaugural meeting of the Respiratory Interdisciplinary Series (RISE) was held on December 20, 2025, in Beijing. The conference was co-hosted by the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, Capital Medical University, and the RISE Working Group. The theme focused on the "Current Status and Challenges of Drug-Resistant Pulmonary Infections in Specific Populations." The symposium brought together more than 20 experts and early-to-mid-career professionals from disciplines including respiratory medicine, pediatrics, infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, disease control centers, academic research institutions, and healthcare administration.
Experts at the meeting agreed that respiratory diseases, as a major public health issue, carry a heavy disease burden and pose significant challenges for prevention and treatment throughout the entire life course. Among vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children, drug-resistant infections have become a particularly difficult clinical challenge. The development of relevant vaccines and therapeutics, along with enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration, are effective strategies to reduce the burden of antimicrobial resistance. To this end, experts engaged in in-depth discussions on these topics.
The RISE Working Group will continue to serve as a platform to facilitate the translation of meeting outcomes into expert consensus or policy recommendations. It will also advance pilot initiatives for clinical and disease control data sharing, as well as interdisciplinary research collaborations, with the goal of establishing a shared technical platform for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of drug-resistant pulmonary infections in specific populations.
